Denver Nuggets vs. Seattle 1993/1994

Vicki and I had just arrived in Colorado. I had come out a few months earlier to find a place and meet the moving company.
The Denver Nuggets had just begun a season that would take them into the PlayOffs against Seattle in the fabled 5 game series. You know the one… Dekembe is rolling on the floor clutching the ball… the one where current Nuggets coach George Karl was with Seattle. The one where George simple does not want to watch it any more.
That was how long ago it has been since the Denver Nuggets won a PlayOff series.
Tonight, on Altitude and TNT the Denver Nuggets will likely break that curse and position themselves for the second round against none other than the Dallas Mavricks.
Vicki didn’t know anyone in town. All our relatives lived in Virginia and she was homesick when I came home from work and said, “Let’s go to an NBA game tonight.” Her response was, and I quote, “I don’t want to go to no damn basketball game.” However, she went anyway and the rest as they say is history.
From the first game we attended until now has been a roll-coaster ride of thrills and spills with the Denver Nuggets. Seeing the Nuggets at McNichols Arena go past the first round and soon after seeing them win exactly 11 games out of 82. There were times when it was tough to be a Nuggets Fan for sure. However, Vicki stuck with the team and was soon known as “The SignLady”… and still is. Kids not yet born when McNichols became a parking-lot for the Broncos now ask her for her autograph some times. Players from other teams, yes that includes our friend still James Posey still get signs saying she loves them… and she does. But they know that when the ball goes up… it’s the Nuggets she and I will be cheering for. During this time, Vicki has missed exactly TWO home games, when her mother passed away. And even then, we worked it out so that I stayed behind for those games and then flew out to be at the funeral. Her Mom, at her request was buried in the Nuggets Jersey Vicki got her. Being a Nuggets Fan is not just fun… it is life.
Vicki is busy getting ready for the game…. the 8:30pm MST game. We will be leaving shortly and right now it’s 2:25pm MST. There is a regular pre-game routine and today will be no different. No different except the Nuggets stand to move into the 2nd Round!
I won’t give you “Stats” or “Game Previews” or any such banter. It isn’t necessary. The excitement we both feel getting ready to watch the team potentially put on another show against the Hornets cannot be fully described. It’s huge to say the least.
Well, gotta run. Things to do before leaving. If you are attending the game then we will of course see you there. If you are not attending, I urge you to watch the game on TV. This is Denver sports history in the making folks. You can say you saw it when it is talked about years from now.
Tonight, this one is for Rodney Rogers.
Go Nuggets!
