LeBron James 23 and 6
Recently, LeBron James has been THE media whore with his often quoted commentary regarding why everyone needs to get ‘23′ off their jersey and let the NBA retire the number.
This is certainly not the first (or last) article to find ‘holes’ in LeBron’s argument… as shown by the great examples below:
Site after site seems to clearly see what LeBron can’t… and this is by no means meant to disrespect the great Michael Jordan… but the number which SHOULD be retired (if any are) is not ‘23′ but ‘6′.
How in the WORLD can LeBron make a statement like, “I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon,” “There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade if there wasn’t Michael Jordan first.” and not recognize that without Bill Russell, it would have been very hard, if not impossible for Michael to exist in the format he has.
Yes, it is true that Mr. Jordan was THE most effectively marketed athletes of his generation and was instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s. It says so in his ‘Wiki’.
But, when you talk about great Players who have had a personal impact on the game of Basketball there is simply no way the discussion should be held without talking about Bill Russell.
Frankly, I (and it seems many others) are not the least bit concerned about LeBron wearing ‘23′ since it is very unlikely that anyone will ever mistake him for Michael Jordan.
And, if he wants to change to ‘6′ then fine. The confusion will be even less likely, for this is a photograph ‘pose’ that is not likely to EVER be repeated by anyone… least of all LeBron James.
