Gilbert and Guns
According to Gilbert Arenas, quoted in a recent article, he’s not at all concerned with either the authorities or getting suspended (very long). To him this matter, just like he described it, is all a big joke.
“I’ve looked at the consequences that they’ve brought against other people and they were like three to five games,” Arenas said. The star guard was also very loose about his Monday visit to the U.S. Attorney’s office, saying, “It was at a conference table and we talked and joked.”
In fact, in the NYDaily News quoted Arenas as saying, “If I really did something wrong, I would feel remorse for what I did,” Arenas said. “I didn’t do anything.”
Really? You didn’t do anything wrong?
This attitude is exactly why the NBA should (but they won’t) suspend Gilbert Arenas from ever playing basketball again. The league of course is far to scared of the wrath of the Players Union to actually take a strong stance. The NBA wants to just make this little matter “go away” as quickly as possible. Gilbert has of course already been told this… thus his “What? Me Worry?” attitude as he used his hands as pretend guns at a recent game.
Frankly, Gilbert is right. He seems to have very little to worry about. He will likely get about 12 to 20 games. Sure it will “sting” a little, but not much. Nothing he can’t handle…. and there-in lies the REAL problem.
If the NBA were REALLY concerned about the image they present to the public. If they were REALLY concerned about putting a family-friendly product on the court. If they were REALLY concerned about the safety of other players, coaches, staff, media and even family that often have access to the dressing room then they would take a HEAVY handed approach to this matter.
But they won’t…
Enjoy your vacation Gilbert. There will be millions of dollars waiting on you when you return!
