Same old NEW Nuggets
ESPN recently ranked the Nuggets at #4, behind Oklahoma, the Bulls and Miami who was 8 and 1. It seems clear that since LeBron has been unable to earn a ring in a regular length season, the effort to take advantage of a short season is being put forth. I suppose a Ring with an asterisk is still a Ring none the less…
So, Denver ranks #2 behind Miami in points per game at home with Denver putting up 103.64 points per game versus 106.64 points per game from Miami, while shooting just .315 from 3-point land. With the number of potential 3-point stars the Nuggets have, it’s both exciting and depressing to think what our offense could be doing. Dropping them in from afar not only piles on the points, but spreads the defense allowing some of our great players to zing a pass to the inside.
However, rebounds per game is a different story with Denver ranking 25th at 40.27 rebounds per game… and this is an improvement from where they were not too long ago. With Denver ranking #1 in the NBA in Steals per game at 11.18, it’s amazing that they are not doing more to get that second effort attempt by at least attempting to rebound the ball. However, play after play finds Chris Anderson or Nene (or ???) nearly across center court as the opposing teams haul down rebounds virtually unopposed. I find it difficult to understand the idea that it’s all or nothing when it comes to getting back on defense or offense.
At 11 games into the already short season, Denver has a respectable 80% win percentage when scoring 100+ points. Compare that to their 21st place .667 overall winning percentage (which really has us in a 6 way tie with Cleveland, Milwaukee, Dallas (yes Dallas), the Clippers and Jazz) and you begin to more clearly see the importance of getting that second effort chance for an offensive rebound. Not to mention denying others a put back with a defensive rebound. Frankly it’s sort of embarrassing.
On a more important note, the “chicken and fries” and “fish and fries” just down from section 130 have sunk to an all time low in quantity and quality. TINY pieces and still only three… running almost $12.00 with a drink. Friends are suggesting the “taco salad” or “baked potato bar” as a better solution to the in-game hunger. While the Pepsi Center is a great venue, the food quality and quantity has never been very good. Just saying…
Just noticed last night that Chris Marlowe and Scott Hastings our dynamic data duo now have high-back, cushioned chairs in which to do their pre-game TV discussions. They used to reside on regular “bar stools”.
Vicki advised our new Denver Mayor Hancock as he milled around our corner that the last Mayor she got her picture with has become Governor. Not sure that there is a direct correlation there but you just never can tell.
So it would really be nice if Vicki didn’t have to scream “REBOUND!!” on every play. No one expects us to get every ball, but why not at least hang around to try and get a few? Just saying…
