Mavericks extend win streak to 13 (AP)

03/10/2010

New Jersey Nets forward Terrence Williams (8) and Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion, right, chase down a loose ball in the second half of an NBA basketball game, Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Dallas. The Mavericks won 96-87 giving them a 13-game win streak.

Top scorer Dirk Nowitzki was struggling, and the Dallas Mavericks needed points from other sources. Jason Kidd, Caron Butler, rookie Roddy Beaubois and Shawn Marion picked up the slack. Kidd had 20 points and nine assists, hitting 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and the Mavericks recovered from a lethargic start to match the NBA’s longest winning streak this season with their 13th straight victory,…

James to return to Cavs’ lineup Friday (AP)

03/10/2010

LeBron James is expected to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ lineup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, while Antawn Jamison will be a game-time decision. They were just two of six players to miss practice Wednesday for the Cavaliers, who took advantage of a break in the schedule to rest all five of their regular starters.

Grizzlies rip Celtics to extend road run (AP)

03/10/2010

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, left, reaches out to forward Paul Pierce (34) as Pierce, forward Kevin Garnett (5) and guard Rajon Rondo (9) walk to the bench for a timeout in the first half against the Memphis Grizzlies in an NBA basketball game in Boston on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The Grizzlies won 111-91.

The Memphis Grizzlies keep winning on the road. And now they’re even beating Boston. Rudy Gay scored 28 points on Wednesday night to lead Memphis to a 111-91 victory over the Celtics and give the Grizzlies a franchise-record seventh straight road win. The previous six were against non-contenders, but this was Memphis’ first victory over the Celtics in seven tries.

Nuggets show off depth, rally by Wolves (AP)

03/10/2010

Minnesota Timberwolves' Damien Wilkins, bottom, attempts to shoot as Denver Nuggets' Chris Andersen, top, hovers over him in the second half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Minneapolis. Andersen scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds in the Nuggets' 110-102 win.

Soaring through the air for a jaw-dropping, 360-dunk off an alley-oop pass, J.R. Smith showed everyone what teammate Chauncey Billups already knew — the Denver Nuggets are so much more than a two-man team. Even though they held Billups and Carmelo Anthony in check for much of the game, the Minnesota Timberwolves were still powerless against a deeper and far more talented opponent.

Jazz get 10th straight win vs. Pistons (AP)

03/10/2010

Detroit Pistons' Rodney Stuckey, left, watches the Pistons take on the Utah Jazz while sitting behind assistant coach Brian Hill in the first half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, March. 10, 2010, in Auburn Hills, Mich. Stuckey has not played since collapsing during their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 5.

Most NBA coaches would be thrilled by their team scoring 247 points in two nights, especially in consecutive road victories. Jerry Sloan, though, wasn’t impressed. A night after putting up 132 points in a rout of Chicago, Sloan’s Utah Jazz put on another offensive show, beating the Detroit Pistons 115-104 on Wednesday.

Doctors clear Stuckey for exercise (AP)

03/10/2010

Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey is carried out on a stretcher in the third quarter of an NBA basketball game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Friday, March 5, 2010, in Cleveland. Stuckey collapsed into a trainer's arms on the bench Friday night during a game against the Cavaliers.

Rodney Stuckey doesn’t know when he will play again, but he hopes it will be this season. Three doctors cleared Stuckey for exercise Wednesday after extensive cardiac tests. He collapsed on the bench during Friday’s game at Cleveland and was taken away on a stretcher. He missed Sunday’s game against Houston and will be out again Wednesday against Utah.

Thunder cruise past short-handed Hornets (AP)

03/10/2010

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, center, passes in front of New Orleans Hornets forward Julian Wright, left, and forward David West during the first quarter of an NBA basketball game in Oklahoma City, Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Oklahoma City won 98-83.

Since point guard Chris Paul went out with a knee injury, rookie Darren Collison has been able to duplicate the All-Star’s production against just about anyone the New Orleans Hornets play. Just not the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant scored 29 points, Russell Westbrook added 17 points and came up just shy of a triple-double, and the Thunder beat injury-depleted New Orleans 98-83 on…
