Twitter Blocking 101
If you are one of the millions of Twitter users, there will come a time when you need to “Block” another user. It has likely already happened. The reasons for doing so are varied and many.
Most Twitter users fall into two basic types:
A: Those that want to get as many followers as possible and don’t care who they are and
B: those that want to have quality followers and the total number of followers they have is not the objective.
It’s common for Twitter users to initially be an “A” and then decide to become a “B” as they get hammered with worthless get-rich spam, porn, hi-jack virus links and “buy from me” accounts.
So why block someone instead of just not following them? When someone follows you, you are in their twitter stream of discussion. Their other followers see you and decide to follow you. However, that user you are not following generally attracts other users you will also not want to follow… misery loves company.
It’s easy really. You either follow them or you block them. If they are not good enough to follow then why even keep them around? They are just a “number” at that point.
I make exceptions for about 2 or 3 I follow that don’t follow back. One is @Mashable, two is @RedCross and three is currently @abbywildeyes who is the 16 year old sailing around the world by herself.
Here are reasons Twitter users often get “Blocked”. I know I’ve missed some, so feel free to comment. If you are one of the types I speak about, well you can comment too if you like. Might be fun to hear you try to defend your position.

If you are going to simply automate your Tweets to come from an “Auto-Source” then why even be on Twitter. You’re outta here. This goes for “scheduled” tweets too.
If your tweets look like this -
This person has protected their tweets.
You need to send a request before you can start following this person. -
Most, (yes, not all) protected tweet users are a pain. Generally speaking, don’t waste your time. This also applies to those “You gotta verify yourself” users too.
If your tweets look like this -
Hello! Hey! Look @ This! Check out this new item from my EBay store! -
To be fair, this is not about EBay. It’s about the HUGE numbers of Twitter users who constantly spam you with link after link, product tweet after tweet trying to move you from Twitter to their website store. I can understand a tweet or two a day maybe, but in-your-face product and services pushing will get you blocked. Quickly.

If you expect people who do not speak your language to take time to translate your tweets… well we generally don’t. I simply “Block” you. If you follow people and can’t read their tweets… well you are obviously only interested in a bigger “follower” number.
If your tweets look like this -
(Blank) As in NO Tweets. Nothing. Zero. Not a word. -
Why anyone would want to follow or be followed by a user that says nothing is beyond me. Instant Block. No discussion. This also applies to 1 or 2 tweets and thousands of followers, the nothing but RT person and the nothing but “quotes” person. If you can’t say something original, you’re gone.
If your tweets look like this -
“♥.❀*¨`*♥¸HAPPINESS! JOY! LOVE! ♥.¸.❄•*•*¨`*♥ .❀•*¨•*¨♥” -
Please. Twitter, (thankfully) is not MySpace so enough already with the juvenile crap. OK, one “heart”… maybe, but 100 plus characters of this is just stupid and annoying. Even worse are the folks who write “billboard messages” using these characters. Hopefully Twitter will eliminate this kind of junk in the near future.

Hey! Take a look @ My pictures! You have to register though.
This user is of course hoping to spam you into going to their porn site and likely infecting your PC with some nasty virus crap.

Hey! I just got 20 trillion new followers from youraspammer.com and you can too!
Well, you get the idea. NEVER use or suggest anyone use any type of 3rd party program to get followers. It’s against Twitter’s TOS… and besides it makes you look like an absolute fool who has no friends at all.
Thanks for reading! If you don’t fall into any of the above categories feel free to follow us @MileHighFan as we like to list and suggest great Twitter users and we follow you back.
